6 Steps for using Personal Transformation to Reach Your Career Goals

How much do you like your job? If you don’t, you’re not alone. 60% of Americans feel unhappy with their careers and wish they were working elsewhere. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible.

So, what do you do when the job you wish you had isn’t available, or you don’t feel quite ready for a career change? Simple, you embrace personal transformation and create hope, goals, and even joy regarding your work prospects.

How?

Start with Visualization
What is the job you wish you had? What kinds of duties appeal to you? What are the things you’d like to accomplish in the work world? You can’t transform into anything if you don’t know where you’re going. Picture this in as much detail as possible.

Assess Your Current State
Where are you now? What kind of employee are you? What challenges you? What frustrates you? If you were your boss, what would you think of you? Be honest here. If you’re not putting in your best effort, you need to face up to that now.

Ask Why
What happened to keep you from where you want to be? Why are things the way they are now? If you’re not putting in your best effort, what makes this so hard to do? Where is the disconnect? These questions might not be able to be answered easily. If you’re having trouble understanding the reasons why you’re in a place where you’re not happy, try journaling to get to the heart of the matter.

Create a Plan
Knowing where you are and where you want to go should help you create a map of sorts. How do you get from the current you to the future you? What steps would you need to follow? If you’re having trouble with this, start by asking a lot of questions such as:

* What skills would I need to get where I want to go?
* What personality traits would help in this position?
* What resources would make this transition easier?
* Who would I need to know to make this happen?
* What education am I lacking?

Define Needs
Once you have a plan, you probably see gaps where you require resources you don’t have. How can you get those? For example, if you lack a certification, maybe you need to sign up for a class somewhere or take a test. Write down these things as items to do first on your plan.

What About Mindset?
Physical activity is one thing. Dealing with any mental roadblocks is also important. Here is where learning confidence or working on self-talk would be handy. Add this to your plan.

Put The Plan into Action
All the plans in the world aren’t going to do anything for you if you never begin. It’s time to transform your life!
